Successful Weekend at Iowa Irish Fest

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Iowa Irish Fest has come to an end and organizers say it brought in crowds like never before.

Official numbers aren't in just yet, but organizers say they believe this fest shattered records, especially compared to other festivals.

Iowa Irish Fest Director Chad Shipman says, "You know it's hard to estimate because we do a wristband for all 3 days but I would say, for two a half days there were between 25-30 thousand people."

But what makes this festival so successful compared to other festivals, like My Waterloo Days?

You may remember, Mother Nature was not on their side...making things complicated on day one.

Director of My Waterloo Days Tracey Southall says, "Overall attendance within the two days was probably close around 10 thousand people."

It's a bit of a difference compared to this year's Irish Fest- but organizers say that doesn't matter.

Southall says, "We all have different demographics that we are trying to target and we are all very supportive of each other."

At the end of the day, each festival is about bringing different people together...all for a good time.

Southall says, "It's what is unique about Waterloo."

"You don't have to be Irish to come, but you will be when you leave!" says organizer, Mike Miller.
