JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

Alexander Kozak, the man accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Andrea Farrington at Coral Ridge Mall in June, appeared in court Monday morning wanting to move the trial out of the county.

In court, Kozak's attorney, Peter Persaud said they will be filing a motion to move the trial out of Johnson County.

Johnson County District Court attorney Janet Lyness said the reasoning is the case's publicity.

"You want to make sure, if something's had a lot of media coverage, that you can still have a pool of jurors who have not read or heard so much in the media about a case, that they can make a decision based on what they hear in the courtroom," Lyness said.

A trial date was also discussed. It was decided the current date of Oct. 6 might not be a realistic trial date because of the number of witnesses involved with the case.

There will be another court appearance at the end of August, where the trial date will again be discussed.

Kozak sat through Monday's hearing in silence.
