Families Review Safety Tips While Enjoying George Wyth State Park

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Today was the first Saturday since the attack at George Wyth earlier this week.

Despite the incident, many people still headed out to the park to enjoy the beautiful weather.

For one local family, George Wyth park is the place that brings their family together and recent events aren't going to change their mind.

"This is a beautiful park," said Marvin Dietz. "Its a beautiful place to be and we wouldn't have stopped coming here no matter what happened."

That being said, the family is being more aware of their surroundings.

With several small children in attendance at the family gathering, Annette Dietz made a point to go over the rules of the day with her grand children.

"That in order to be safe, that they had to be with in our vision so we could see where they were and not to wonder off into the bushes and do exploring basically," said Annette Dietz.

Many say they were shocked to hear about the attack last week, but because of their own experiences here at George Wyth, they say they still feel safe to bring their families.

"I use to walk here quite a bit," said Dawn Fields. "I've never heard of any violence or anything like that happening so I just thought it was a random act."

The increased patrol is also easing the minds of park goers.

"With all of the added police presences, we're not worried about it," said  Marvin Dietz.

Police are still making patrols through the local parts a priority and are still investigating the attack.

There has been no arrests or breaks in the case so far.
