Columbus falls to Clear Lake in state final

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The first trip to the 2A state final didn't pan out as planned for the Columbus Sailors as they'd fall 11-1 to Clear Lake in a five inning outing.

Columbus starter Luke Farley, who had been brilliant in appearances in the Sailors' first 2 state games, would struggle on Saturday. Clear Lake scored 5 runs in the second on Farley, and tacked on 6 more in the third against Isaac Squires. Only 2 of the 11 runs were earned, however, due to a tough defensive day that included 4 Columbus errors..

The Sailors closed their runner-up season at 32-6 overall.
