DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

New Jersey's governor Chris Christie is campaigning in eastern Iowa to be the country's next president. The GOP candidate had a meet and greet at the Shot Tower Inn in Dubuque. Some people say they came out to help decide who to vote for in a race that's packed with many candidates.

"That's what Iowa's all about, we're here to help weed out the candidates and pick the people that have the good message," said Dan Nicholson.

The message Christie sends is that he's "telling is like it is."

KWWL attempted to ask him about the recent poll that shows he's in the middle of the GOP pack, but Christie completely shot down our attempt."

He said, "are you from the press? We're not talking to you. We only talking to real people."

Although he didn't take questions from the media, it didn't seem to have a negative impact on people that attended the meet and greet.

Ruth Hartig said, "I think almost every candidate including Governor Christie is capable of leading this country. I'm very impressed with his whole feel."

Some of the issues Christie addressed were reforming social security and immigration.

His next stop will be at the Iowa Irish Fest tomorrow in Waterloo.
