DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds have announced the current governor’s office legal counsel Michael Bousselot will be the next Chief of Staff.

The selection comes after the announcement that current Chief of Staff Matt Hinch will depart to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.

Bousselot is a native of Davenport and has served as policy advisor to the governor and lt. governor for the Iowa Department of Human Services, Iowa Department of Revenue, Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa Department on Aging and the Iowa Public Employee Retirement System.

Before joining the governor's staff, Bousselot worked as an attorney in private practice. Before practicing law, he worked as a consultant in Chicago.

Bousselot earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2005 and a master’s degree in accounting and business taxation in 2006 from The University of Iowa.

In 2009, he received his law degree from Drake University Law School.

Bousselot will assume his role as Chief of Staff on Aug. 8, 2015.
