WATERLOO (KWWL) -

It's an exciting time for KWWL.

The KWWL building in Waterloo will undergo a major renovation.

The first visible signs of the project is the demolition of a big billboard just steps away from the KWWL building.

Project managers say it's the groundbreaking that kicks off renovations.

Bringing down the billboard is a big job.

The footings of the structure are in the ground about 10 ft. deep.

The whole thing will be removed within the month.

The next step is the demolition of the American Legion building which is next door to KWWL.

That's set to begin next week.

Planning is still taking place for renovations.

The KWWL building is a historic landmark in Waterloo and will be restored to its original specifications.
