DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

If you're headed to the Dubuque County Fair this year, there's a good chance you might notice some heroes in a half-shell.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be featured at the fair all week. They're just part of a bigger effort by organizers of the Dubuque County Fair to hit their attendance goal of 60,000.

They're also enticing people with free admission over lunch.

All you have to do is come between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., eat lunch, and show your receipt on your way out (you have to be out by 1 p.m. to receive the refund) -- and you'll get your admission refunded.

"(We're) hoping they see something they like and will come back again," said General Manager Jamie Blum.

But even bigger than turtles or free admission during lunch is this year's headlining act -- pop superstar Jason Derulo.

"It's huge," Blum said. "It's a great thing for us and for the people in the community and in the outlying communities."

Blum says the grandstand can pack in nearly 8,000, and she expects Derulo to sell about that many tickets.

It's an impressive feat, considering both acts from last year's fair drew a combined 4,200.

And while the move is a bit out of character for a fair in eastern Iowa, Y105 morning show host Chris Farber says it's a home run.

"I think if you ask most Dubuquers, they'll say that we've seen a lot of artists of the past," he said. "This is the first time I can remember in a long time that Dubuque County Fair has welcomed a current artist, and that's what's most exciting about it."

More information on the fair, including ticket information, can be found at dbqfair.com.
