BOULDER, Colo. (KUSA) -

A Boulder, Colorado police officer shot and killed a stabbing suspect and 2010 Iowa City High graduate late Monday night at an apartment complex.

Officers responded to an apartment building at 1841 19th St. in Boulder around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Someone inside the apartment called 911 to say a man was acting erratically.

The caller said that the man was high on LSD and had attacked someone in the apartment with a knife.

The caller claimed the suspect was outside the apartment screaming.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a victim with cuts to his face. As they made their way up a stairwell toward the apartment, they found the suspect who was naked.

The suspect was later identified as 22-year-old Samuel Forgy, who was a University of Colorado student.

Boulder Police told KWWL that Forgy was from Iowa City. According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen's graduate list, Forgy was an Iowa City High School graduate in 2010.

Forgy reportedly climbed onto a railing as if he were going to jump down on the officers, who were on a landing below him.

One officer used a stun gun on Forgy, but it didn't subdue him. Another officer shot Forgy who died on scene.

A hammer was recovered near Forgy's body.

Officers evacuated the apartment, and a 23-year-old man was taken to the hospital for his injuries. He had a number of knife-related injuries including a six-inch cut to his forehead and a bite make on his hand.

The victim, who has not been identified, is expected to be OK.

Boulder Police say they found several kitchen knives inside the apartment and found blood both in the kitchen as well as parts of the unit. Residents in the apartment said Forgy was subletting a room.

Boulder Police say this is the fourth officer-involved shooting in the city since 2008.

The Boulder County Investigative Team will look into the shooting. The team is made up of senior law enforcement officials from multiple agencies throughout the county.

The officer who shot the suspect has been with the Boulder Police Department since 2013. The officer has been placed on paid leave until the District Attorney's Office has completed its review of the incident.
