She is scheduled to appear in court this morning.

Police are searching for a woman who escaped police custody in Dubuque.

42-year-old Jennifer L. Williams escaped custody Monday morning.

According to Lt. Scott Baxter, officers responded to a residence to arrest Williams on several warrants.

Baxter said the woman was handcuffed behind her back and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.

Williams managed to open the squad car's back door and flee on foot while the arresting officer was outside the vehicle talking to another person.

Baxter says an investigation determined Williams asked an officer to roll down the back window due to the extreme heat.

After the officer did so, she was able to slip one hand out of the handcuffs, reach through the window bars and open the door using the external handle.

The officer was initially unaware of her absence, allowing her ample time to flee out of sight and not be relocated.

She is described as white, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 157 pounds, with dark hair and blue eyes.
