The No. 1 seed Cascade Cougars fended off a five-hour rain delay and the No. 8 seeded Mediapolis Bulldogs to win 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A bracket on Monday afternoon.

The rains came with the Cougars at-bat in the bottom of the sixth leading 3-2, suspending play from 12:26 p.m. to 5:26 p.m.

After the rain Cascade added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, getting a two RBI double from Lieurance followed by an RBI single from Trace Hoffman.

Hoffman (8-0) dealt 2.2 hitless innings for Cascade in relief for Lieurance, allowing just one walk while striking out two as he earned the win. The right-hander has yet to allow an earned run in 41.2 innings this year.
