$1M being raised for special baseball field in Davenport

Posted: Updated:

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) -- Around $1 million is being raised to build a special baseball field in Davenport for children with physical and mental disabilities.

The Quad-City Times reports that city parks and recreation director Scott Hock met recently with Miracle League officials for help in designing a new field at Prairie Heights Park that would have a rubberized surface and no elevation changes.

Miracle League is a national organization that provides opportunities for children with disabilities to play baseball and promotes construction of special facilities, dubbed "Miracle Fields," to meet their needs.

Hock says raising $1 million could take Davenport 18 to 24 months.
