A growing Iowa River Landing hosts RAGBRAI in Coralville

Posted: Updated:

The Iowa River Landing in Coralville has changed and developed dramatically over the last 10 years, and now it's hosting thousands of cyclists for RAGBRAI.

Cyclists were welcomed with a red carpet and greeted with bow ties.

"I love it, it's beautiful and a lot of friendly people," says Linda Sheck, a cyclist. "So far this is the nicest welcome that we've had, so it's been really great."

Although the City of Coralville has hosted RAGBRAI five times before, they're especially proud to be hosting at the Iowa River Landing.

"RAGBRAI gives every community an opportunity to kind of show off who they are and what they've got to offer, and so this is our first opportunity to do that for Iowa River Landing," says Deanna Trumbull, a real estate consultant for the city.

Just 10 years ago, the Iowa River Landing was an industrial park.

Now, cyclists are peddling into something worthy of a red carpet. The cyclists we talked to seemed to approve.

"Oh I like it, I like Iowa River Landing," Glenn Lane, a cyclist who has rode in RAGBRAI 16 times, said. "I didn't think about it when it was here the last time we were up in Coralville, but this is great. I mean, everything's in one location."

The Iowa River Landing isn't done growing yet.

"We're adding more shops and retail as we go, you'll see more shops opening in 2016, we're adding about 75 new residential units to the area around Main Street," says Trumbull.

As this area continues to develop, Trumbull also says they hope to host RAGBRAI here again in the future.
