RAGBRAI riders injured in separate Linn County crashes

LINN COUNTY (KWWL) -

Two RAGBRAI riders were injured in separate crashes with vehicles in Linn County on Thursday.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office says the first happened at around 2:20 p.m. when a cyclist ran into the back of a truck on Blairs Ferry Road at Chain Lakes Road.

Deputies say a bicycle ridden by 34-year-old Franklin Yawn of Warner Robins, Georgia ran into the back of a truck driven by 65-year-old Ronald Steenhoek of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Deputies say Steenhoek had stopped for another bicycle that was in front of him.

Yawn was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and is expected to recover. Steenhoek was not injured.

The second accident happened at around 7:47 p.m. in the 4600 block of Shellsburg Road.

Deputies say 38-year-old Joanna Beugnon of Roswell, Georgia was riding east when she was hit be a vehicle that left the scene.

Beugnon was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and is expected to recover.

Deputies are still looking for the driver of the vehicle.
