DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Former Iowa House Speaker Pat Murphy is running for Congress again.

Murphy launched his campaign Thursday.

"From raising the minimum wage and teacher pay, passing equal pay for women, to protecting women’s health care and all Iowan’s civil rights, that’s my record," said Murphy in an e-mail to supporters.  "Fighting for progressive Iowa values is in my blood, with your help, it’s exactly what I’ll do in Congress."

The Democrat ran for Iowa's First Congressional District in 2014. He lost to Republican Rod Blum.

Blum, who has only been serving in Congress for six months, told KWWL's Ron Steele he would seek re-election in 2016 during an interview on The Steele Report.

Cedar Rapids City Councilwoman Monica Vernon and advertising executive and former Saturday Night Live cast member Gary Kroeger are also running. They are both Democrats.
