LINN COUNTY (KWWL) -

Two people were hurt Tuesday night after a motorcycle hit a deer in Linn County.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office says 44-year-old Gregory Tarca of Hiawatha was riding his motorcycle on Ely Road, about a quarter mile north of Wright Brothers Boulevard, when he hit a deer. Deputies say the collision caused Tarca to lay down the motorcycle. The accident happened at around 8:06 p.m.

Deputies say Tarca and his passenger, 50-year-old Jerri Tarca, were injured and taken to St. Luke's Hospital. They are expected to recover.

Deputies say neither one was wearing a helmet.

The deer died as a result of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
