Cedar Falls is ready for RAGBRAI

Posted: Updated:

As the sun sets over the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls Tuesday, it's the calm before the storm.

The Cedar Falls Boy Scout Troop 500 group are making sure it stays that way.

"We're just like, setting up tents for us so we can make sure nothing bad happens," said Boy Scout Drew Campbell.

Campbell and his troop are on patrol on the Cedar Falls RAGBRAI grounds to keep watch.

They have a very specific game plan should anything happen.

"We will call 911," said Boy Scout Lincoln Dean.

And just down the bike path, Singlespeed Brewery is ready to greet all of RAGBRAI's riders and supporters, crafting a special beer just for them.

"We think being a bike-themed craft brewery is going to be a really big pull," said manager Zach Schroeder.

Yes, the calm before the storm of more than 15,000 cyclists for everyone in the Cedar Valley.

And the good news is Cedar Valley coordinators say they're ready.

A few weeks ago they were still searching for 500 volunteers. As of Monday, they said they were about 100 short, but they'll have more than enough people to take care of cyclists and supporters.
