RAGBRAI emergency crews ready for cyclists

Posted: Updated:

RAGBRAI cyclists made the trip from Fort Dodge to Eldora Tuesday.

It was about 73 miles, with some taking the optional loop to make it a 100-mile day.

The Eldora EMS team says they are ready when needed Tuesday into Wednesday.

They are staffed with three ambulances and four people to those vehicles. They are also staged throughout the community in case anyone needs their help.

It's a big task to prepare to take care of tens of thousands of cyclists, and what makes this situation unique is that there isn't a hospital in town.

“One of the things that we did was to have a first aid station with a physician or a provider here around the clock, and so we can handle a lot of situations right here in Eldora without having to put people in ambulances and sending them to the local hospitals,” said Corey Larson, Eldora EMS Director.

If someone would need a hospital, they would get transferred to Iowa Falls or Grundy Center.
