DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Dubuque Police Department says an 88-year-old man was taken to the hospital after a rollover crash in the 100 block of Clarke Drive.

Lieutenant Scott Baxter says Calvin Koecke was eastbound on Clarke Drive, near the intersection with N. Main Street, when he lost control. Baxter says witnesses say they heard the engine rev up before the crash. Baxter says officers believe Koecke may have hit the wrong pedal.

Koecke's car crashed into the yard of 119 Clarke Drive, rolled over onto its top and then slid back into the street on its roof.

Baxter says Koecke did not complain of any injuries, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police say there was also damage to the yard of 1906 N. Main Street. They estimate the damage to both properties to be about $500. Baxter says Koecke's car was totaled.

Baxter says Koecke will be charged with failure to maintain control.
