Shirley Descorbeth is thrilled to be in eastern Iowa covering Dubuque and the Tri-states area for KWWL News. She is looking forward to immersing herself in the community and sharing its stories.
Shirley has always been fascinated with watching the news and interested in what was happening in her native city of Chicago and around the world. She found writing to be one of her strengths, and occasionally got in trouble for talking too much in class by her teachers. So for her, broadcast journalism felt fitting.
She recently received her master’s degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois at Springfield. While there, she covered the gubernatorial elections and the Illinois State Legislature.
Well-rounded in different aspects of media, she worked at the Chicago Sun-Times in digital advertising prior to her graduate studies, but is now delighted to be doing what she says is her passion.
She has gained media experience with internships at WGN-TV in Chicago and WCIA-3 News in Champaign. For undergrad, she attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
In her free time, she enjoys visiting her 95-year-old grandfather, discovering new music, occasionally working out, learning about different cultures and catching up with friends.
If you see Shirley around town, say hello and introduce yourself! She would love to meet you and hear about any story ideas you think should to be heard.
