CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Zach Johnson fans gathered at Mulligan's Pub in his hometown of Cedar Rapids, to watch him clinch his second Major Championship victory.

Mike Rupp who knows the Johnson family, was there to cheer him on, "For him to do this it's just unbelievable, plus like I said we've know him since he was pre school age and this is unreal."

We also caught up with Zach Johnson's childhood friend and high school golf teammate, Brian Rupp, who had talked to him recently.

"We talked a little bit about the British Open, and he talked about how much he really liked the tournament, said it was one of his favorites every year."

This year was most likely Zach Johnson's favorite British Open of all.

The Iowa native got his start at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids at the age of ten.

His first coach and golf pro at the country club, Larry Gladson, remembers him when he first started, and was watching him today.

"It's a proud moment, you know it was emotional, you know especially watching Zach and how he reacted and how much it meant to him."

The win also meant a lot to those who aspire to be like Zach someday.

"I've always had a pretty high goals, but to see him accomplish that,  it just makes me believe a little bit more that I can do it too," said Connor Koberg, and Iowa State golf commit.

Zach Johnson played his college career at Drake University, a similar path that pro golfer Dane Worley has taken, who is also a Cedar Rapids native.

"To end up at Drake where he went is ironic, but it's obviously very cool at the same time, knowing that he's obviously done what he's done you know going the route that I've gone, that gives me a lot of promise and actually a lot of you know hope that I can do the same thing someday."

Jeff Hamilton, the president of Elmcrest Country Club says, "You look to Zach Johnson and you see these young kids get excited, about the opportunity, to develop into the next Zach Johnson."

A name that anyone I talked to would be proud to wear.
