Irish Fest adds a new Irish tradition to the celebration.

It is a game that has been played since the mid 1800s in Ireland and will now be added to the list of events at this year's Irish Fest.

The inaugural Iowa Irish Fest Rugby Invitational will host teams from across Eastern Iowa on Saturday, August 1st.

The invitational will have games from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at East High School.

However, rugby will not be the only sport at this years Irish Fest. 

Attendees can also participate in the Fifth Annual SamRock N Run 5k and the Highland Games.

The 5k will kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Preregistration is available at https://runsignup.com/Race/IA/Waterloo/ShamRockNRun5k.

The Highland Games will start the weekend off with a interactive demonstration on Friday, July 31st from 5-8 p.m.

Then on Saturday between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., participants will compete in  Caber Toss, Sheaf Toss, Stone Put, Weight for Distance and Weight Over Bar.
