Schaake goes back to back in Waterloo Open amateur division

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The list of accomplishments in the past year for Carson Schaake's been impressive. After Sunday, the University of Iowa sophomore can add back to back Waterloo Open Amateur championships to his resume.

Schaake was impressive late, shooting birdies on 3 of his final 6 holes to win the title. He was 3 strokes better than Neil Doak and Hunter O'Mahony on the weekend.

He credits some of that success with having the opportunity to tee it up with the pros after earning a sponsor's exemption at last week's John Deere Classic.

"It showed me what I needed to work on, showed me my weaknesses, showed me what I'm pretty good at, and what I need to get better," said Schaake, "That was really cool."

Sunday's win capped a year in which the Hawkeye golfer captured the individual title at the Big Ten Championships.
