Whitney charges late to win Waterloo Open pro title

Posted: Updated:

All weekend the back 9 at Irv Warren Golf Course is where Tom Whitney constantly found his groove. The same happened on Sunday. Whitney birdied 5 of the final 9 holes to rally past Eric Steger to earn the 2015 Waterloo Open professional championship.

The Fort Collins, Colorado, pro shot 22 under par over the weekend to defeat Steger by 3 strokes.

"This week, I played the back 9 at 16 under," recalled Whitney, "I knew that even though I had a quiet front 9 at 2 under that I was hitting my favorite 9 coming in."

The win, the 4th of Whitney's professional career, netted him a $55,000 payday.
