CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The 2015 USA Arena Curling National Championships are bringing people from all over the country to Cedar Rapids this weekend.

"I drove alone and it was...eight hours," said Sharron Archambeau, a curling spectator.

"Well we came from Atlanta, my husband and I actually used this as our honeymoon," Hannah Hyde told me as she watched her husband play down on the ice.

Curling is usually held during the cooler months, but this event is hosted in the summertime to avoid hockey and figure skating seasons.

"Some of these arenas are open like this all year round, this is the perfect time for them to have it," said Lon Peper, the president of Cedar Rapids curling.

It's also proving to be a good escape from the heat.

"It's cool in here, no humidity," said Archambeau as she watched from the viewing area above the rink.

"It's a nice cool place to come and watch curling and learn what's going on in the sport," Sam Crawford told me as he watched with a couple of his friends.

Rick Patzke, the CEO of USA curling said curling seems to be growing in popularity.

"We could tie it directly to 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic games and the coverage of NBC."

The championships will go through Sunday this weekend.
