Cedar Rapids Rampage unveiled

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The name of the area's first professional soccer team, the Cedar Rapids Rampage, was unveiled today.

The name was selected from about 2,500 entries submitted after the announcement in June that the city would be getting a team which would be a member of the Major Arena Soccer League.

Shawn Sukalski of Cedar Rapids was the lucky fan that submitted the name. He will receive Rampage season tickets for the team's inaugural season.

The team says the logo was designed specifically with the City of Cedar Rapids in mind.  The logo features an "R" carrying the soccer ball in a wave of water. The blue in the team's colors is the same blue used by the Cedar Rapids Titans of the Indoor Football League, the Rampage's sister organization.

"The colors that we selected represent several things relating to the history of Cedar Rapids and the surrounding communities. The blue reminds us of the sparkling waters of the Cedar River. The gold carries the meaning of compassion, courage and passion; all traits that Cedar Rapids and eastern Iowa residents have demonstrated over the years," Chris Kokalis, Co-Owner of the Rampage and Titans, said in a written statement.

The team, which is close to hiring a coach, will kick off the 2015-16 season with the October 30th home opener.
