CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Neighbors in a couple of Northeast Cedar Rapids neighborhoods have reported multiple coyote sightings.

They were seen near Chestnut Lane as well as Lakota Court.

The Iowa DNR says a full grown coyote can weigh up to 45 pounds.

Many neighbors have seen coyotes up close while walking their dogs.

"Didn't really know what it was at first and I kind of make the realization that's what it was and when you're walking a dog you kind of pull up and try and be a little bit more careful," said Carya Fischer.

Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control suggests, "If you have small pets, monitor them at all times, and it's not just for coyotes, wildlife look at small animals as prey, that's just natural," said Diane Webber, the program manager.

Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control says they usually won't bother people, but if they seem threatening, there is something you can do.

"The best thing to do is just haze them which is just flail your arms around and shout at them they're more afraid of you than you are of them."
