CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Waterloo man faces up to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a federal gun charge.

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 23-year-old Dameon Harris pleaded guilty on Monday to being a felon and unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm.

Court records show Harris admitted to the court he was standing outside his girlfriend's apartment complex on April 7 when someone in a white vehicle shot at him. He also admitted to having a gun in his possession that he tried to hide in his girlfriend's apartment before police arrived.

Harris was convicted of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in Chicago in 2013.

Harris faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. A sentencing date has not been set.
