Community lights lanterns at Angels Park to remember Lyric and Elizabeth

Posted: Updated:

The death of Lyric and Elizabeth inspired a community project called Angels Park Memorial Island in Evansdale.

The community came together at the park Monday evening to honor the girls and see how far the park has come.

"Hope, I think that's it hope," said Margie Stocks.

It's been three years since the kidnapping and murder of the two Evansdale cousins and now organizers of the community project park are calling it a park of peace.

"People can just come over and sit and think about life," said organizer Tom Nichols.

Nichols' angel, Lindsey was shot and killed in 2012.

"To you lets say you have an angel, you have that special person that have passed on, this park is for you," said Nichols.

There were flowers and bricks placed as dozens of people lit lanterns honoring everybody's angle.

"Honor these girls and these people forever," said Buzz Andersen.

Anderson says he donated the statue at the park.

"Makes you feel at peace, five girls and five people, and five kids climbing up the rocks there, very meaningful," said Anderson.

Lyric and Elizabeth's bikes were found on the lakeside trail.

The lake area has been the epicenter for the investigations that followed their disappearance, that place now a hub of hope.
