On anniversary of kidnapping/murder, parents visit 7 Bridges

Posted: Updated:

On the anniversary of their daughter's and niece's abduction, July 13, Heather and Drew Collins went to Seven Bridges Park.

They believe Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook were abducted -- and subsequently murdered -- on this day three years ago.

The two cousins from Evansdale were riding their bikes near Myers Lake when they were abducted.

Hunters found the girls' bodies at Seven Bridges Park in Bremer County five months later.

Elizabeth's parents say the killer had to have known this place very well, as it's very remote -- and you can't even drive all the way to it.

"I just can't imagine how scared they were," said Heather Collins. "I can't imagine how terrified -- especially Elizabeth was -- and her sweet little face and Lyric's little face, her smile, and how could someone could actually go through with it and kill them?"

Law enforcement has said the person who killed the girls could still be in the Cedar Valley, but knows the Seven Bridges Area really well.

Cedar Valley CrimeStoppers is offering a $20,500 reward.
