TRACKING SEVERE STORMS: High heat, PM storms possible

Posted: Updated:

There is a Slight to Enhanced risk of severe weather in the KWWL viewing area today, especially in our eastern counties, and the whole area can expect heat indices over 100 degrees.

Storms last night stayed to our northeast, but have put out boundaries that could set off more storms later today.

The best areas will be the eastern half of the viewing area with damaging winds the greatest threats. Isolated tornadoes are possible, but more likely farther east. Heavy rainfall will be possible with any storms that develop, whether or not they are severe.

Time: Mainly afternoon, but could see a few late morning east of Dubuque to Cedar Rapids line.

Threats: Wind, heavy rainfall. Isolated tornado, isolated large hail.

We are also seeing very high heat indices -- they will be over 100 degrees over most of the KWWL viewing area this afternoon with areas along and south of Highway 30 expecting heat indices from 105 to 110 degrees.

A Heat Advisory is posted for those counties, including Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
