Iowa City mayor to serve on White House Conference on Aging panel today

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowan will be one of five panelists when the health of older Americans takes the spotlight.

Iowa City mayor Matt Hayek will represent Iowa City in Washington, D.C. today at the 2015 White House Conference on Aging.

Hayek will join four other panelist to discuss topics that improve the health of senior citizens. They will also discuss how to prevent disease and injury, optimize cognitive and behavioral health, and maximize independence in homes and communities.

Iowa City was ranked number one in the category of "Top 20 Small Metros" in a 2014 survey of Best Cities for Successful Aging.

The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
