Kyven Gadson is no longer retired from the sport of wrestling.

The 2015 197 pound NCAA champion now plans on making a push to earn a spot on the United States' Olympic team. This comes as a bit of a reversal after the Iowa State and Waterloo East alum announced plans to step away from competitive wrestling following his national championship victory.

Gadson penned an open letter on takedownwrestling.com saying he'd known since the age of 8 that he wanted to be an Olympic champion. He attributed his brief absence from the sport to exhaustion.

Iowa State head coach Kevin Jackson, a 1992 gold medalist, will continue to mentor and coach Gadson through the Cyclone Wrestling Club as he prepares for the Olympic Trials. The trials will take place in Iowa City in April 2016.
