Iowa City run/walk to benefit neurofibromatosis research

Posted: Updated:

A run/walk and kids' fun run will be held in Iowa City to benefit neurofibromatosis (NF).

The event is meant to raise awareness and money for NF research and will take place Aug. 8 at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area.

Neurofibromatosis is a disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body.

There is currently no cure for this genetic disorder, but one in every 3,000 people are affected by it.

The Children's Tumor Foundation will be hosting the event.

The run will be an 8.5K and will be timed by chips.

Many people who are living with NF will be participating in the run/walk. They are known as "NF Heroes" by the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

Activities will be hero-themed, including a photo booth and shield making, among others.
