WAUPACA COUNTY, Wis. (KWWL) -

A mother had little time to react when severe weather hit her house on Monday afternoon.

The Waupaca County (Wisconsin) Sheriff's Office says the woman heard the wind pick up about 5 p.m. and moved two of her children, ages 4 and 7, to the bottom of a stairway.

Then she ran to the top of the stairs to get her 1-year-old daughter, who was asleep. The woman had trouble opening the bedroom door as the tornado hit the house. The sheriff's office says the glass had already been blown out of her daughter's bedroom window, but she was able to get inside and grab her daughter. They ended up with the other kids at the bottom of the stairway. No one was seriously hurt.

The tornado took off part of the roof and caused other damage.
