HIAWATHA (KWWL) -

Some lawmakers are calling for a special legislative session.

This comes after Governor Branstad vetoed some $55 million in one-time funds for Iowa schools.

Democrats lawmakers from Linn County want a special legislative session dealing with education.

Supporters gathered Monday night at Hiawatha Elementary School -- they want to see their Republican colleagues join them in supporting a special session so they can override Governor Branstad's veto.

"We feel that we've worked for a year and a half in order to get the compromise that we got," said Representative Art Staed, who serves Cedar Rapids.

It would require support from 2/3 of the legislature to override the veto.
