AMES (KWWL) -

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for Harrison Barnes after becoming just the 3rd Iowa high school alum to win an NBA Championship. Celebrations, rallies, and parades have become the norm, and that was the case Saturday when Barnes was named Grand Marshall in the 4th of July parade in his hometown of Ames.

The former state champion cruised the streets along with a special guest, the Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy, and Barnes says having the chance to celebrate with the ones who've followed him since the beginning was a special moment.

"The people in Ames they've supported me, and the people in Iowa since day one," said Barnes, "It's nice to finally hit the highest point in your sport and be able to come back to your hometown and be able to celebrate it."

Barnes is the first Iowa high school alum to win an NBA title since Matt Bullard did it with Houston in 1994.
