MASON CITY (AP) -

A Des Moines woman has been given three years of probation and been told to pay nearly $1,900 in restitution for cashing counterfeit payroll checks in northern Iowa.

Angela Jefferson also was sentenced Wednesday in Cerro Gordo County District Court to two five-year prison sentences, but they were suspended.

Authorities say Jefferson, Keyera Coleman and Carli Taylor Ohnemus cashed more than $3,900 in phony payroll checks at three grocery stores in Mason City on Feb. 13 and 14.

Coleman will be sentenced Aug. 3 after pleading guilty to one count of theft. Ohnemus is scheduled to go to trial July 28 on charges of theft and conspiracy to commit theft.
