DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Local Dubuque man Jerry Meyers is turning his yard into a patriotic display in honor of a patriotic Fourth of July weekend.

Flags, messages for troops, and lights cover his yard for people driving by to see.

A Cold War veteran himself, Meyers says he created the display to remind people that the Fourth of July and other patriotic holidays aren't all about barbeques and bean bag tournaments, but about honoring troops.

"It's not about that always. It's about the people that brought us these holidays, and that we live in a country like we do free. We can do what we want because of our troops and our veterans," Meyers said.

Meyers says that he has been creating these displays for about three years now, and that any donations he may receive goes to the Veterans Freedom Center in Dubuque.
