CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Century old stones were returned to Cedar Rapids schools after 45 years.

Polk, Jackson and Van Buren elementary schools received the stones which are a part of their history.

The stones were part of the original elementary school buildings, and were preserved when the buildings were torn down.

For thirty years after the schools were torn down, the stones sat in storage.

They spent the last fifteen years displayed at the Cedar Rapids History Center.

The stones weigh a ton each and are made of limestone and granite.

They were moved by a crane and are now with the current schools that bare their name.
