KEY WEST (KWWL) -

The Key West Fire Department has put out a call for help to raise money to buy grain bin rescue equipment.

Although they're a small community, the fire department covers a 96 square mile area of southern Dubuque County.

The nearest department with the equipment is about 20 minutes away, meaning they're at the mercy of other departments.

"When somebody's entrapped in grain, obviously time is of the essence, and it would be basically a waiting game to get people here with the equipment," said Fire Chief Brian Arnold.

They are hoping to raise $3,000,  which would cover the cost of the grain rescue tube, grain removal auger as well as the safety harnesses and related safety equipment.
