DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Flooding has kept campers away from Miller Riverview Park in Dubuque the past two 4th of July weekends.

But drier conditions this year mean the park will be full of campers this upcoming weekend.

Kenneth Clayton, the park's manager, says this weekend is their biggest of the year.

"We'll double and even triple our other weekends with this one weekend," he said.

Meanwhile, Steve and Deb Simon are back at their favorite spot for one of their favorite weekends.

"It's time for the family to get together and enjoy the Fourth of July weekend and remember the veterans," Deb said.

Her husband, Steve, agrees.

"Oh it's great," he said. "It's close to home -- in case there's an emergency, we can go home. Other relatives can come visit and join in the festivities that we have."

And while their granddaughter is busy feeding the ducks, Clayton is getting ready for an influx of more campers just like the Simons.

He expects nearly 500 campers for the weekend, with thousands more showing up for Dubuque's popular 3rd of July festivities, including an airshow and fireworks.

He also said they expect to generate up to $8,500 in revenue -- nearly a quarter of what they brought in last summer, thanks to the floods that cut their season short.

But it's all smiles this year.

"It's just great, just wonderful. We're as happy as a clam in a sandbag to be open and have everybody coming in again," Clayton said.
