New Iowa laws take effect today

Posted: Updated:

Several new laws go into effect today after being passed by lawmakers.

Beer law: Getting your hands on craft beer will now be easier in Iowa. The new law makes it legal for convenience stores and grocery stores across the state to sell Iowa beer in bigger amounts.

Snow plow lights: The Iowa Department of Transportation has permission to try new lights on some of its plows -- blue and white instead of the amber color. The DOT hopes this will make plows more visible to drivers so the trucks don't get hit as much.

Sledding: You'll be able to sled at more public parks this year. Cities are no longer responsible if someone gets hurt. This comes following problems in Dubuque, which banned sledding in some parks because of liability fears. Sledding will be allowed again in those parks this year.

Visitation rights: Visitation rights for adult children to see their ailing parents will change.

Funeral protestors: Protestors must stand one-thousand feet away from a funeral.
