Street project to cause travel problems for months

Posted: Updated:

A water main project along Highland Avenue in Iowa City will cause travel hiccups for months

Starting Wednesday, July 1, work will begin on the Highland Avenue Water Main Project, including new water main installation along Highland Avenue, from Marcy Street to Lukirk Street, street resurfacing work and curb ramp replacement along Highland Avenue and Carroll Street.

In order to complete the work, various lane reductions along Highland Avenue are needed.

Marcy Street and Yewell Street north of Highland will be closed to through traffic at some point in the construction, however, access will maintained for neighborhood residents, emergency vehicles and service vehicles during this work.

Crews will be working through the summer and is expected to have traffic flowing back to normal by Monday, Aug. 31.

Motorists are encouraged to take note of this construction work and allow extra travel time or seek an alternate route during this project. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling through all construction areas.
