CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A coalition is underway to stop the gun violence in Cedar Rapids.

Pastor Craig Brown with First Lutheran Church wants the community to respond the increasing gun violence, and says it takes people to do it.

Sunday, July 12 beginning at 8 p.m. there will be a vigil to recognize gun violence that will including a walk and candlelight service at Riverside Park

Brown says according to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the number of shots fired has increased in five years from 18 to 44 to 64 to 96.

Over the last several months Brown has organized the Wellington Heights & Mound View Neighborhood Associations, Third Ave Churches (First Lutheran, St. Paul's UMC, Westminster & First Presbyterian, & Immaculate Conception Catholic Church), the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Inter-Religious Council into a massive coalition for a simple walk and candlelight service along the river to pray for peace.
