Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (KWWL) - Voters said yes to a new $2.3 million general obligation bond for the Washington Community School District.

Public Measure A, which needed a supermajority -- or 60 percent -- to pass, got there with 69 percent of voters approving of the school bonds.

A total of 721 voters said yes, while 319 voters said no, according to the Washington County Auditor's Office.

The measure will help construct a preschool wing onto the existing school building.

Just over 15 percent of eligible voters voted in this election, according to the auditor's office.

The full text of the measure is as follows:

Shall the Board of Directors of Washington Community School District in the Counties of Washington and Jefferson, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $2,300,000 to provide funds to construct, build, furnish and equip a preschool wing to the elementary building and to improve the site?
