WATERLOO (KWWL) - Voters agreed to a new property tax for Waterloo schools on Tuesday.

Public Measure B, which would levy a 67-cent-per-$1,000 property tax, passed easily.

Unofficial results from the Black Hawk County Auditor's Office show the measure had a 1,170 yes to 266 no ratio.

The measure needed a simple majority, or 50 percent plus 1 vote, to pass. It garnered 81 percent of the vote.

The tax will go into effect in 2018.

Just 3 percent of eligible voters voted in Tuesday's election in Waterloo, according to the auditor's office.
