HAZEL GREEN, Wis. (KWWL) -

Marty's Fireworks in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, has been a part of the fireworks game for 27 years.

And a major reason for that? The business of Iowans.

"All of our customers are 100 percent from Iowa. Maybe there's three or four from Wisconsin," said 21-year-old Mickey Marty, who's been in the family business for about 10 years.

The Iowa Legislature came close this year to passing a bill that would've legalized fireworks in the state, but in the end, they just came up short.

So Iowans continue to flock to Wisconsin to buy the fireworks they're denied here.

It's not illegal to own fireworks in the state of Iowa, but it is illegal to shoot them off.

Marty says the family was following the debate and looking forward to expansion plans.

"Yeah, we were thinking about opening up a couple shops in Iowa or importing, selling to all the other fireworks stands," he said. "Competition is only good for business, so we'll see how it goes."

Whether legal or not, he says, fireworks will also be a popular draw.

"I think people love it," Marty said. "Fireworks will never end. I think as long as you can go out and get them, people are going to get them."
