Greece's financial crisis affecting American tourists

Posted: Updated:

ATHENS (AP) -- It's deadline time in Greece, as the European part of its international bailout is expiring with no new deal.

Without an 11th-hour solution, Athens will lose access to the remaining rescue loans it needs to pay its debts, one of which is due today. The result could be a messy default and potential exit from the euro currency.

Banks are closed and ATM withdrawals are limited.

Greece's prime minister, Alexis Tsipras is encouraging people to vote no Sunday on the latest offer from the country's creditors. He insists a rejection will strengthen the country's negotiating hand.

Tourists, including Americans, are worried about the impact on their vacations. If they didn't bring enough money on the trip, they're going to have problems withdrawing cash, too.
