IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The Grant Wood and Wetherby Neighborhood Associations, with support from an Iowa City grant a summer program will add more fun.

The Summer Playground Program will be held in parks that feature splash pads, providing an additional opportunity for play and the chance to cool off on warm days.

The program is designed for students from all areas of Iowa City who have completed kindergarten through 6th grade in 2015. It will run from July 6 through August 14. Morning sessions will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Fairmeadows Park, 2500 Miami Drive. Afternoon sessions are scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. at Wetherby Park, 2400 Taylor Drive. In case of rain or inclement weather, the program will be canceled for the day.

To enroll, parents or guardians must register their child onsite the first time he or she attends the Playground Program. There is no fee to participate.

The neighborhood associations requested grant funds from the City of Iowa City's Program for Improving Neighborhoods (also known as the PIN grant program) to run the program, which has been organized by the City's Recreation Division. It will be supervised by trained Recreation staff.
